Angel Estuardo Diaz Granillo was born in Guatemala on October 29, 1961. He currently lives in Guatemala. This specialist in combined events is a civil engineer. He describes his family as fun, united, sporting and competitive.
He started the athletic practices in 1979, his first year at the University of San Carlos in Guatemala. Angel was part of the national team in the World Athletics Championships in 1983, in Finland and the Olympics in Los Angeles, United States, in 1984. After having stopped training for various years, this athlete joined the athletics again in the XVII North-Central America and Caribbean Championships held in Guatemala in 2006.
All economic support comes from his profession and sports work. Ángel arranges his working schedule to be able to train. This athlete has a healthy diet, supplemented with vitamin supplements, and also programming and focus on short and medium-term goals.
Lately, Angel practices the decathlon, and in individual events, he competes in the 100 meters dash, 100 meters hurdles, high jump, shot put, and discus throw.

After 28 years of having completed in decathlon, he participated in this event, at the Perth World Championship, where he won 1st place in the M50-54 category, just two days before his 55th birthday. Angel says that there are many benefits of practicing athletics. Besides about staying in good physical and mental condition, it motivates him daily to be better, disciplined to achieve his goals and never settle for getting it, as one goal immediately leads to another.
In the short term, his goals are to win and impose a new record in the World Championship in Malaga, Spain, in the decathlon and be among the top three in the high jump and 100 meters hurdles, in its current category (55-59). In the medium term, this specialist in combined events wishes to achieve the Indoor World Record and, on his way to meet those objectives, obtain some records of North-Central America and the Caribbean region. Furthermore, Ángel dreams of reaching two world records in Decathlon in different categories.
